When relocating to a big city like this, you can expect many charming amenities, but this place has some spectacular landmarks that should be first on your list of unique things to do in San Francisco. So what is the first thing that comes to your mind when you think of this place? Apart from picturesque streets and trams, the most popular landmark of this city is the glorious Golden Gate Bridge.

This is one of the most popular bridges in the world that continues to impress visitors and residents of this place day by day. It is pretty impressive with its unique design, color, and size – approximately 112,000 cars cross this bridge in the Bay Area daily. If you want to cross over it on foot, you can also use a pedestrian walkway.

If you fancy riding across the bridge on your bike, you can do this as well by using the bike lane on the western side. This bridge is actually one of the most photographed spots in the world, so if you travel here, before stepping on it, don’t forget to take a picture to share with your loved ones – even if you don’t tag the location, all of your friends will easily recognize this unique background.

Golden Gate Park in San Francisco Is One of the Best Places for Relaxation

Golden Gate Park in SF, by its popularity, is equivalent to Central Park in NYC, so this should definitely be your next stop. By its size, it is actually 20% bigger than its main opponent, and it has more than a thousand acres of beautiful gardens, foothills, and grooves of trees with many hidden beautiful spots between them.

For this and many other reasons, Golden Gate Park is one of the most beloved locations in the city. Apart from gorgeous nature, you can also expect to see the picturesque glass-ensconced Conservatory of Flowers built in Victorian style, as well as the Academy of Sciences and the de Young Museum. Some of the less famous spots you also shouldn’t miss are bison paddock, south windmills, and Shakespeare’s Garden.

This lovely place is great for escaping everyday crowds and relaxing while chilling on the grass. You can even bring some snacks and food and throw a lovely picnic. Don’t miss out on Park Chalet or Beach Chalet if you’re here for a lovely family lunch. Both places offer delicious food and nice home-brewed beer. Once you get the chance to relax with the charming views, you’ll easily get over the anxiety about moving out

#2 Cupid’s Bow and Arrow

Located in the south of the Ferry Building, along the Embarcadero, you’ll easily spot large Cupid’s Span from any angle. This sculpture is an obvious representation of Cupid’s Bow and Arrow in the size of a large building next to it. The artists who designed this sculpture, Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen are married, and their original idea was that the bow and arrow should be positioned in a way they are pointing at the sky. However, the artists decided to change the focus of attention and invert the obvious, pointing the arrow towards the ground.

It is placed upon a smaller hill, and it utilizes the mythological aspect of Eros shooting the arrow into the Earth to make it fertile. Also, San Francisco has the reputation of being the home port of Eros, hence, it is a perfect location for the sculpture of a bow and arrow symbolizing Cupid. However, this new, inverted position of the sculpture gives the impression of a boat sailing into the bay. It was finished back in 2002, and it is one of the most famous city attractions.

#3 You Should Also Visit the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art

San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMoMA) offers more than 45,000 square feet of space filled with unique art pieces. It is located at 151 Third Street in the Southern part of the Market District, and one of the best parts about it is that the first and second floors of the museum are entirely open to the public with no tickets required. You can always check what’s currently on within the free-to-see area of the museum. It was first opened for visitors back in 1929 when it displayed masterpieces of Cubism, Abstract art, Post Impressionism, Surrealism, and Pop Art.

If you want to see the whole museum, regular tickets for adults are $25, but there are special discounts for seniors and people aged between 19 and 24 (ID required as the proof of age). Entrance is completely free for those who are 18 and younger. Plan to spend at least 2 or 3 hours here because there are plenty of impressive artworks to see. For those relocating here, it is good to know that all residents of nine Bay Area counties are invited to spend an evening at the museum free of charge – from 4 to 8 p.m. on the first Thursday every month.

The Walt Disney Family Museum Is Another Interesting Place to Visit and Explore With Your Children

In case you’re relocating to a new city with young children and want to find out what are some of the cool things to do in San Francisco with them, your list should definitely include the iconic Walt Disney Family Museum. It was founded by Walt Disney’s oldest daughter, Diane Disney Miller, back in 2009 when it was first opened to the public. It is located in the beautiful Montgomery Street Barracks, recognizable for its picturesque brick walls.

In its 40,000-foot space area, the main museum building features many historical artifacts, as well as modern technology that helped in the process of bringing Disney’s original ideas to life. You can admire interactive galleries, see many original drawings and sketches as well as many animations, and enjoy original soundtracks and music at listening stations. Here you can also find a 12-foot Disneyland model. Visiting this place is definitely one of the top things to do in San Francisco with children after a long-distance move.
